The first quarter of the year has turned - tipped - towards light and life; a rising. From Equinox to Beltane spring is surging, sap is swelling.
Stepping out into a new world is Aries’ momentum, stepping out - wild for life, free, ferrel, fuelled with enthusiasm. Ready for the challenge, the chase. The step, the tread, must be forward - yet the tug backwards remains ripe, winters grasp remains close. To falter is to be caught in this returning tug, hence Aries’ fuel has a keen pioneering momentum, urgent to hold the course.
However archetypal energy is never generic, only ever specific.
This Aries moment is like no other. And how we live into this moment is the way the Archetypes grow, they too are on a journey in and through us, deepening through our lived lives.
A year ago the Aries energy received a shock to its initiatory impulse, rather than emerging up and out into the world there was global restraint and withdrawal. It is not happenstance that the swelling urge was thwarted in 2020 and the tepid rising from 2020 into 2021 is happening now, within Aries energy. There is much to listen to here. A need to tap into the frequencies that lie beyond the generic and the obvious.
What messaging is live within this tempering of Aries energy?
Aries certainly has the fortitude and resilience to rise from knocks, bruises and batterings, bouncing us back to our ‘usual’ way of being in the world, however the way Aries does this is perhaps where Archetypal tonification is at play.
Rather than to be cut from the tenderness, severed from all that has occurred collectively, to march out towards new horizons in order to overcome the fear from the tugs of grief and uncertainty that pull at our hems, to face this whole new world with the drive to conquer and overcome through brute will.. are there other Arian ways we can attune to?
Is there a deepening within the Archetypal energy to marshal, in an artful way?
To allow instinct to be close but not to thrash out of fear and survival but rather as a care-full way of proceeding, of treading which can incorporate the bruises, batterings and aches rather than fervently override them and others in the process ?
I wonder ....
Wondering opens up the playing field, makes it less like the battle field that the Aries energy will often see before it. I wonder.... in this exquisitely, exceptional collective moment of return, of renewal, of re-membering if we can include the intrepidation and tenderness, cultivate a fierce gentleness to stay with and proceed forth into the complexity and not to cut - off from it, or let the impulse to cut our way through some black and white false martyrdom be the only one we listen to?
This is not the heroic journey in a Campbell sense - this is a heroic moment but the story of the western hero is severely under review, attack and rightly so.
Can we move from right to rite - to bring the sacred to the centre and bring our marshal Aries energy to advocate fervently this instinctual sense ?
Each cardinal sign, of which Aries is one, is a hinge - shifting the year into its new seasonal phases. At a moment of immense pivot can the Aries momentum hinge, turn and attach, as each of us finds our place in the world anew. Can this be done with fortitude and fathomless depth with all beings co-present and co-creating anew ?
