As we emerge into the World, walking among the grasses of the fertile grounds laid out for us by Taurus, The Hierophant and The Empress, there comes a desire to meet others’, to connect with another beyond ourselves, a peer, a friend, a lover. We desire companionship, connection, conversation, community.
We have entered June and with the zodiacal sign of Gemini and The Lovers’ (tarot card) all in play together we are in the presence of an emergence of duality (multiplicity) and communication.
In Gemini and The Lovers the one becomes two.
And in two we have duality. In two we have choice. In two we have poles and we have centres. The universe itself is built upon the aspects of duality. Of the importance and neccessity of opposing and balancing forces. And in the Universe as in relationship there is a constant movement between the two. Dark, light. Matter, antimatter (spirit). Separation and union. Polarisation and agreement.
Duality; cell-division, reproduction it lies at the essence of life, of creation.
And this duality is the essence of The Lovers.
In this card we meet Adam and Eve and the stirrings of a divine union. It shows the possibility and power that lies at the heart of unity and the creation that is possible from that union. In love we recognise the power of sacred union, of feeling lost within the essence of another, wrapped up in such a fashion that we may lose a sense of where we end and they begin. But this feeling moves and shifts, never constant. We are ‘as one’ and then we are separate once more. It is a merging and then a re-emergence.
This is the nature of communication, a very Gemini quality, and communication searches for compatibility and connection to others’. We are always finding ways to come into unity, into balance with others’. Dancing through our interactions.
But the duality of The Lovers’ is an important aspect to this card as it speaks of choice. Only when there is more than one thing or way on offer can a choice be made possible. And here, in The Lovers, we are first met with that choice. To stay or go. To unify or separate. To be present or to call up the past.
'Should I stay or should I go?'
Our life is a constant interplay of choices. And those choices define the path of our life. All the macro and micro choices we have made have lead us to where we are right now, reading this and anything could have stepped in the way of this ever finding its’ way to you. In this way we make choices and those choices open up pathways upon which divine guidance is offered (this is the Angel in the card). How impactful that guidance or those messages will be known to us by the choices we then make.
And so, at this time of Gemini and The Lovers - let’s be aware of the choices we are making, of the time we are giving to ourselves, our work, our loves and others’. And notice in your connections how you speak and work with others’. Are you seeking harmony or separation? Sometimes we may be making the choice unconsciously and pushing away the ones we love while being in harmony with those we hardly know.
Why would that be? Do we feel safer alone? Are we unknowingly pushing them to leave us to fulfil a belief we hold that we are unloveable/not worthy? Are we unconsciously acting out of fear?
The Lovers is a wonderful card for self-reflection and being in its’ month of June - this is the perfect time to do it.
