The Moon-tides of Emotion

This month, as we move through March, we may find it is one of emotional undulation; an ebbing and flowing of the watery pull of Pisces and the Moon. A teasing tug of war between the subtlest of our emotions and the overwhelming.

We may feel awash with sadness, or worry or over-sensitivity and there may be a sense of confusion and uncertainty as our emotions appear to be in the lead.

Perhaps in this context, we may resist immersion into the waters, tentative in our steps towards the lapping waves, and yet as we look out across that vast ocean, knowing the depths that reach far below, we may be reminded of the extraordinary beauty that comes from our deepest feelings, how love and joy can change our lives; can change the world.

And it isn't just feelings which are contained in these subconscious aquatic realms, it is imagination and dreams; the threads of inspiration and creativity. And so perhaps we are also feeling those soft streams of day dreams, of a mind that wanders' away from the present and into far off spaces.

And perhaps in this month we are simply feeling a little less physical, a little less motivated.. a dreaminess has descended.

In Pisces we meet the deep ocean of emotion and in The Moon we explore the hidden and the intuitive. And so, a theme of this month could be seen as immersion. The deep immersion into the experiential and the imaginal without the need to intellectualise, or examine, or decipher.

Unlike January where Capricorn and The Devil where leading us toward the idea that inquiring and perspective can set us free, particularly around the re-membering of the Seagoat's tail in order to call to our emotional beings, to connect us with the truth of our heart, to recognise the presence of the eternal, the energies of Pisces and The Moon are a little different.

With Pisces and The Moon in March we are not being asked to inquire, to evaluate, to determine.

We are being asked to feel and to flow. We are being asked to experience, to sense, to intuit, to be washed over by, emotion. In order to feel it and release it.

Dreams comes to us when we let go to the experience, and so it is the same for emotions in our waking life. For if we can allow the cycles of our emotions to flow through us, to experience their ebb and flow and not to judge or dictate or suppress, but to simply be with them and acknowledge their presence and allow ourselves to feel, even when these feelings feel heavy, sad, depressive, when we feel them, rather than resist them, they will eventually pass, for nothing is constant.

Change is inevitable.

And so can we accept it when we feel sad and when we feel joy. Can we see that our feelings are messengers, and when we listen, we allow ourselves to ‘be’ with ourselves; to experience this moment right now, without closing down or shutting it out.

And can we find there is in fact a beauty to the sadness, an awe in our depression? Look how much we can feel. Look how deeply our body and our mind are entwined.

In this way The Moon draws us towards integration and union. By not dismissing or outcasting any aspect of ourselves we come to know ourselves. When we feel and accept our emotions, we come to recognise the messages and embrace the emotional conversation. When we grant ourselves permission to feel – we come know our heart.. and the strong yet subtle voice of love.

If we do not feel sadness can we truly feel joy?

If we do not feel anger can we truly feel forgiveness?

If we do not feel fear can we truly feel love?

It is not the feeling itself that is destructive or connective, it is the actions and choices we take when we feel. That is where the work is. Not in diminishing the existence or experience of feelings.

Like yin and yang. Passive and active. Both have their place. There is a freedom that comes from experiencing the latter, but the latter cannot be known without the journey from the former.

This is a time for flowing with the voice of our inner landscape, moving from head to heart or mind to body.

This is a time of deep knowing. Of understanding our own rhythms and cycles. It is a time of knowing how to work with our emotions, how to direct them in a way that is open and cathartic, rather than binding and destructive.

This is a time of self-acceptance and surrender.

A time for cleansing, rebalancing, realigning.

It is not a time for pushing ourselves in the material realm/outer world. It is a time for connection, experiencing, visioning, venturing into all things spiritual/metaphysical that can help to bring through the flow of alignment and self-knowing.

When we come to know all this, we come to know ourselves, we come to know the universe, and in all that we find a deeper trust, a deeper surrender.

It is this trust that will wash away the anxieties of worry, fear and uncertainty.

Trust is the anchor that will hold us, when those stormy seas rise.
